My Service

Graham Watts is a Canadian oil painter based between Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia. His work is shaped by the West Coast — big weather, shifting light, and the quiet power of time spent outdoors.

Raised in Guelph, Ontario and drawn west by the Sea-to-Sky, Graham’s creative path began in photography before evolving into oil painting through a deep fascination with atmosphere and light. In the studio, he builds each piece in deliberate layers — balancing realism with expressive colour and bold texture to capture not just what the landscape looks like, but what it feels like.

With a background in business from the University of Guelph and a career spanning marketing and technology — including work with Fortune 500 companies and entrepreneurial ventures — Graham brings both creative intuition and strategic discipline to his art practice.

Self-taught in oil painting, his journey began over 20 years ago with a small canvas and three tubes of paint. What started as exploration matured into a distinctive style defined by vibrant colour, movement, and depth. Today, his original works are sought after by collectors across Canada and internationally.

His paintings are designed not just to depict the wilderness — but to bring its presence into modern spaces.

Artist Statement & Studio Philosophy

Art has always come naturally to me. As a self-taught artist, I approach each blank canvas with urgency, curiosity, and a sense of mystery. What I can’t express in words finds its voice through colour, texture, and light. My work often begins with a spark — the stillness of a forest, the shape of a ridge, or light on the sea — and evolves into something with a life of its own.

My true skill isn’t technical; it’s patience. I’ve learned to wait, allowing each layer of paint to find its place — a lesson that mirrors life.

Though my creative journey began with photography, it was my love of light that led me to painting. Now working primarily in oils, I create museum-quality originals and archival prints that reflect not just the landscape but how it moves me — rooted, alive, and endlessly inspiring.

West Coast Roots

Living between Vancouver and Whistler keeps me close to the places that fuel the work—coastline, mountains, city evenings, and the in-between spaces where light does the heavy lifting.

Rather than painting “subjects,” I chase mood: clarity after a storm, the hush of early morning, the glow that hits for five minutes and disappears. Those are the moments I try to translate into oil—so the finished piece feels lived-in, not staged.

Materials, Technique & Finish

Blending realism with emotional depth, Graham’s contemporary style captures movement, atmosphere, and mood. His use of texture, layered oils, and luminous color reflects not just what he sees, but what he feels. Each piece is an invitation to experience the stillness, energy, and raw beauty of BC.
